Planning Ahead In Louisiana for Lump Sum Payments

Those of us who process payroll know that on many occasions lump sum payments to employees do not make it into the payroll department until the last minute.

The state of Louisiana considers any payment outside of regular pay in the amount of $300 or more a lump sum payment.  Now, they are asking you to get management to let you know about these lump sum payments at least 15 days in advance, so you can notify the State Department of Children & Family Services of this payment.  Then, they will make the determination as to the amount of Child Support to withhold from that payment.

However, should you not hear back in time to process payroll, you are instructed to handle the Child Support the way you currently do.

I've had a couple requests from coworkers that the Optimum team take over another system. I think they're just jealous how great I have it working with Optimum!
