New information regarding the JPMorgan Chase data breach continues to surface. The hackers, which began in June 2014, were not detected until August 2014. During this time they were able to infiltrate JPMorgan’s server, which was considered to be one of the most secure 3rd party networks.
It is suspected that at least 76 million households and 7 million small businesses were affected by the breach. The hackers were able to steal customer information including names, addresses, contact numbers and emails. The data was siphoned over a few months as to not trigger any alarms.
Since the JPMorgan breach, a handful of other financial institutions have been unsuccessfully targeted by hackers including: ADP, HSBC Holdings plc, Regions Financial Corp, and others.
